Robins on the lawn

Yesterday I noticed a flock of robins on the lawn. No not the first ones I have seen, I usually see a bunch in early February and this year was no different. There robins were hopping around on the dead grass tossing leaves in the air looking for worms I assume. A sure sign of spring but here in Maine we wait. The snow is not completely gone and is still deep to our north. More important to me is that the ice is still in almost everywhere. We rode past the boat launch on Seven Tree Pond last evening and open water is still about a hundred yards from allowing me to launch a boat.

Still the warmer season is coming and like robins, melting ice or snow; the annual Maine Professional Guides Association banquet will be here next week to mark the passing of winter. Always nice to visit with peers from around the state to tell a few stories, listen to a speaker and get something new on the auction. After that the cover comes off of the boat and the first forays on the water will be made. No long now!
