The Perfect Eagle Watching Trip

Blog Tags:

Spent the morning with two ladies on an eagle watching trip we saw maybe a dozen eagles including two eaglets still in the nest. The weather was perfect, cool with a breeze from the west certainly not windy. A perfectly clear blue sky overhead I picked them up at their hotel in Rockport. After launching the boat we headed off upriver and I have to confess I was nervous after the first few miles. Not an eagle in sight and no ospreys either.

A little further upriver and we spotted the first eagle who was very cooperative, soaring closely overhead for some time. On to the first nest where we spotted two adult eagles and an eaglet on the nest. Heading back down river and below the harbor we went to the second nest where both adults and the eaglet posed for some excellent photo opportunities; so good that I can’t wait to see the photos.

Further down we saw another eagle at an abandoned nest site along with a few seals and an osprey all of which were pretty shy under the bright sun. Heading in at the end of the trip an adult common loon posed for us and let the boat get quite close. We also saw a red throated loon while underway (actually I did not see it until it was flying).

I returned the clients to their hotel a little after noon to spend the warm afternoon visiting a few local spots I showed them on a map. The perfect eagle watching experience!
