Early July was hot here just like the entire east coast. Of course heat is relative, I am pretty sure that we did not break ninety degrees and most afternoons there was a sea breeze that dropped the temperature to more pleasant levels. Last weekend we had rain that has returnDon in door of Yukoned us to more normal temperatures and the forecast shows high temperatures around eighty for the next ten days.
Amazing to say but June is all but over and July will soon start. The season has already been busy.
Last weekend was filled with family trips and lots of firsts. Three year old twins were a total blast for two mornings as they took in their first fishing trips. One trip on saltwater where we saw lots of new sights and caught mackerel the second on freshwater where we caught bass, perch and pickerel. Another family with older boys fished for the first time and caught a tank full of mackerel.
June is half gone and we are well into the summer season. Everything seems to be ahead of normal, yesterday I spent the morning fly fishing for smallmouth bass on a local pond. Halfway through the morning I decided to try a surface popper, something that usually does not produce results until the middle of July, and it worked. No it was not a complete home run, casts had to be nearly perfect and many fish passed at the fly without taking. But still this means some of the most exciting freshwater fishing of the summer is getting started.
