After a beautiful summer and pleasant early fall, November arrived with plenty of rain, actually way too much. We have had a series of storms resulting in high water everywhere. I have cancelled some grouse hunting parties because of the weather and no one has been interested in fishing under these conditions. The current forecast is for a stretch of settled dry weather. Hopefully things will return to normal, but I expect that the Saint George River will not go down to a fishable level until late spring.

Monday I guided a pair of anglers on Megunticook Lake in Camden. After last weeks rain storm the lake has come up a full eighteen inches and the water temperature fell five degrees. A strong west wind blew at times up to thirty miles per hour. Needless to say fishing was slow! Still with persistence and willing anglers we were able to bring maybe ten fish to the boat. The new trolling motor on the Lund Alaskan held its own all day in the wind; fishing without it would have been nearly impossible in that wind.

It is hard to believe that October is all but here, meaning that my summer season is fast drawing to a close. In the next month my time will be divided between Libby Camps in the North Maine Woods guiding upland bird hunters and Union guiding fishing trips. At this moment I have only one open day until November and a rest will be needed by then.
