We are now past the middle of May and I am enjoying talking and e-mailing with clients every day. It is always a pleasure to arrange a trip with clients that I have known for years and take a minute to tell a few stories. Meeting new clients is also a load of fun, being able to describe what I do, the places that we can go and the fun we will have.
In the last few days a couple of excellent resources have come into my inbox that will help you plan your visit to our area. First a page built by Dominika at LeVatout in Waldoboro on places to eat in the area. This goes a long way to answer the question I am asked most frequently, where should we eat. The only omissions that I see from the list are Amalfi in Rockland; Argy's favorite for steamed mussels with a great view and The Badger Café here in Union. The Badger puts up many of the meals on full day trips. LeVatout offers packages that include trips with me if you are looking for an all-inclusive adventure.
The second resource is an article by John Christie in the Maine Sunday Telegram describing some of the day hikes in our area. If you would like to have someone lead you on trips like these day hikes have been added to our offerings this summer.
There you are a couple of great resources to use planning your vacation surrounding an adventure with Maine Outdoors. I am looking forward to talking with you in the next couple of weeks. |

Mid May Trip Report The morning was a delight; warm but not too warm and sunny with a slight breeze. Fishing was a little slow but still several nice bass came to the boat on stickbaits fished slowly. Including the largemouth in this picture that really shows how pleasant it was. Read more...

Tag Teaming Eagles
Fishing yesterday afternoon seemed like it would be bleak at best. The air temperature was fifty one when I launched and there was drizzle once in a while, luckily there was little wind. The wildlife (and fish) more than made up for it though. As I passed up the river to Round Pond I came to a goose with a bunch of goslings. The goose gave me the broken wing act right off with lots of noise and show. I tried to explain that I had no interest in her goslings but it was no use. Read more... |
Summer Intern
I am very fortunate to have an intern this spring and summer from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Chris Taylor lives in Washington and is a senior at the University majoring in Environmental Studies. He is EMT certified, a member of the Union ambulance squad and the Washington Fire Department. He is learning about environmental policy from a guide's point of view. Actually today he is cheerfully washing boats, canoes and life vests in preparation for the season. The less glamorous side of environmental policy to be sure.
He will be around a couple of days a week for the a good part of the summer. You may talk with him on the phone or even have him along on your adventure. I am sure that you will find him personable, pleasant and helpful wherever you see him. He is also attending a number of meetings with me for the Maine Professional Guides Association to see how much fun I really have. |
