Looking forward to the fall run!

The fall run of stripers is shaping up to be a good one. I have noticed huge schools of immature alewives while fishing and canoeing in Round Pond and there are a good number of stripers in the tidal section of the river. As the alewives begin to drop out of the river they should meet the stripers for a frenzied time of feeding in September and early October. Of course one can never really predict what will happen in the outdoors but all of the signs are there.

A very nice customer comment!

The Samoset received a customer comment card from one of the folks on a package with me way back in June the comment was “The fishing trip with Don was fantastic! Kids caught 20 fish, saw a bald eagle & seals! An amazing morning & a highlight of our trip!” It is great to know when you are getting it all right. So often I can’t tell or don’t know what folks are really thinking about their trip.

Monarch Butterflies

Monarch butterflies are everywhere this summer in fact I had one fly in the window the other day while I was leaving the public launch in Thomaston, and have seen many others far down the river over the open salt water. We have not had any around for the last few years but this summer they seem to be everywhere. I can’t explain why they should be back this summer in such numbers but I am enjoying having them around. The teacher at our house has already gotten some caterpillars and put them in a clear observation box with plenty of milkweed.
