May is here and everything happens at once.
A series of wildflowers bloom in the woods before the leaves block the sun. Like these trillium (stinking Benjamin to those who know) behind the dog kennel. Many are annual favorites that make me realize spring is here. Various bird species arrive and start nesting. Woodcock are a favorite but bluebirds sing in the yard, hummingbirds come to the feeder and the rose breasted grosbeaks start to sing in the trees. The phoebes are nesting under the eaves of the garage again.
On the water there are seasonal returns as well. Alewives have returned to the Saint George and will be followed soon by stripers. In freshwater the bass are getting ready to spawn in the shallows. All of this means that it is time to get out there!
My schedule is already looking like summer and I am enjoying being back on the water with new and old friends.
Best regards,
