No doubt about it this has been a cold wet spring here in Maine. We had lots of discussion of snow early in the week, luckily none it accumulated here. Still it is chilly and the lack of sun has not helped preserve an ever diminishing woodpile.
I was on Megunticook Lake in Camden on Thursday the best day of the week and never took my jacket off. Needless to say those folks from Carolina were chilly. Still a few fish came to the boat and many followed flies back to the boat without doing much more than giving a very careful and disdainful sniff. I suppose that fish are allowed to be fussy in the early spring. Although I can't say that I like that behavior.
The forecast for next week is for warmer weather and before you know it summer will be here. I heard this morning that the alewives are in the
fish ladder in Damariscotta Mills. I suppose that they will be in the Saint George very soon and stripers will be right behind them.
My calendar is filling for June and July so if you are thinking about a trip then it is time to secure your dates. The last two weeks in August are already taken as Argy and I are planning a trip to Alaska to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. After all the traditional gift for a 40th is a day of fishing on a remote river, isn't it?
Looking forward to seeing you this summer!
Best always,
