We had a beautiful stretch of weather over the Memorial Day Weekend that made for perfect opportunities to fish for smallmouth bass and stripers. Argy and I both commented this week on how obvious the apple trees have been this spring; they are in full bloom and really stand out against the backdrop of new green leaves. The birds are also a big part of the outdoors at this time of year. Striper fishing Monday I counted nine ospreys overhead at one time and five eagles sitting in trees watching the stretch of river I was fishing. Saturday afternoon I noted that I had not seen a bobolink yet this spring and the next morning there was one singing his heart out in the pasture around the corner. On Saturday I guided a couple from New York on a smallmouth bass fishing trip that had both of them in double digits for numbers of fish caught. The big news though was that they each caught a brook trout while casting for bass. Because trout normally prefer colder water it is unusual for someone to catch one on a bass fishing trip. That we had two of them in one morning is hard to believe especially since they were caught almost a mile apart on different parts of the pond. The fishing season is in full swing now and after a few days off my schedule is very busy for the next month or so
Audio interview on Maine Web Report
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As part of my work as a lobbyist I was interviewed by Lance Dutson of the Maine Web Report on a proposal to increase Maine's lodging tax. That proposal was part of a report on Maine's future by the Brookings Institution funded by GrowSmart Maine. It is a Maine policy discussion of little interest to most of you but the concept of audio interviews over the Internet is fascinating. You can listen to my responses and those of a few others at the Maine Web Report I can't imagine that anyone would have the patience to listen to all of the recordings but it is fun to be part of it.
Maine Outdoors Added to Cruise Maine Web site
Recently Maine Outdoors was added to the list of resources available on Cruise Maine I did work with one cruise ship last summer and am looking forward to working with others this coming season.
The new Maine Outdoors web page is now fully up and running. I am enjoying having my blog and newsletter as part of the web site. I also like the new look, it is much cleaner to the eye and I hope easier to navigate. If you are planning a trip to mid coast Maine this summer I would love to spend a little time in the Maine Outdoors with you. Reply to this e-mail, submit a contact form from the web page or give me a call and let's arrange a date.
Finally one of the great features of this newsletter is that it is easy to forward it to a friend who might be interested. Simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the forward e-mail link. You will be taken to a form that asks for the addresses you would like to send it to and away it goes. Simple as that.
Best Regards,
