This morning was consistently great fishing for stripers. If this is not the best that Maine has to offer I can’t imagine what is. I had two clients one who only wanted to fish surface poppers for stripers and the second who is learning to fly fish. He can cast a fly but not very far and certainly without much accuracy. We started it off in the harbor where we had a few fish on the first drift. Including a 23” fish that they kept for supper and a few other smaller ones.
After that almost every spot I tried had good numbers of fish at one point the new fly caster had caught fish on six consecutive casts. As a headed back toward the harbor and the end of the trip we came on to fish on the surface, of course I could not just ride by such a great opportunity. Needless to say another hour and many fish later I called it a trip. Those two are spoiled now for sure. They have several other trips booked in the course of the summer but I am certain that they will not see anything approaching this morning.
