With all of the hype around Artificial Intelligence I thought that there was a chance it could actually make my life easier. That is do something beyond proof a blog post for me. No doubt about there are relatively simple administrative tasks that it seems like would be a snap for a machine with half a brain. I have accounts for several of these whiz bang deals and thought that between them a few minutes of my time could be saved and office time simplified. For the record I contracted with a bookkeeper about 20 years ago my life is better and simpler. Not to mention for the most part with the help of an accountant tax time is pretty easy. So I have a standard.
First up was simple enough I thought. When my online calendar takes a reservation, I get an e-mail with the clients information. I add the contact information to my contact file in Microsoft Outlook and a task to contact the client a week before their trip with any last-minute details and a weather guess for the day of the trip. Two relatively simple tasks in my mind not hard but time consuming. I asked three of the AI tools to do this (including the Microsoft version) and none can do it.
OK so maybe that was to hard. Next I have been toying with the idea (at Argy’s prompting) of compiling my blog posts from the last 20 years into a book of some sort. A simple copy and paste project. Granted a large one but the steps are simple enough that most any high schooler could get it done. Two of the AI tools said they could not do it and the MS Copilot has been promising a document with the first 20 for my review for a little more than 2 days now. I am sure that the high school student could accomplish that much before the end of the day.
So from where I sit this AI talk is just hype and sooner or later someone will state the obvious and there will be a stampede to get away from it. Just sayin!
