In a couple of weeks, the Lund will be heading to the shop for its annual winter tune-up. This marks the end of my 38th season guiding at Maine Outdoors. It's incredible how quickly time flies! Despite all these years, I still cherish every day on the water, even when the fish aren't cooperating or the sun is blazing. I'm truly grateful for the countless opportunities and kind recognitions I've received throughout my career.
As I reach a certain age, clients often ask about my upcoming retirement. While Argy and I are now proud grandparents, the truth is, I simply can't imagine doing anything else. There's an unparalleled joy in witnessing the excitement of someone, young or old, catching their first fish or spotting their first eagle. And the pleasure of seeing returning clients year after year is truly special. I appreciate having you as a client.
For the next few years, my summer plans remain unchanged. However, I'm looking to adjust my schedule slightly. I'm hoping to guide no more than two trips per day, five days a week. This will allow me to enjoy more of the Maine summer like you do. I've been taking Sundays off for a while, (the busiest day at boat launches) and I'm considering adding Thursdays. I'll make a final decision by mid-December and block them off in my calendar.
On a positive note, the Coast Guard recently renewed my medical certificate for another five years, signaling their confidence in my continued ability to guide on the saltwater.
Like many small businesses in America, inflation has significantly impacted my bottom line. Not quite keeping up with inflation here but close enough to keep things going on for a while.
This newsletter marks a change in frequency for the newsletters. From now until early April they will come monthly. Plans are for a few ice fishing trips and some winter travel. Details to follow next month.
Please keep in mind that it is possible to purchase a gift certificate for any half day trip that I offer or make a reservation for the coming season. If you are looking for a holiday gift or know when you will be in the area next summer there are a couple of good ideas.
Best regards,
