My latest small business seminar for guides was Saturday. It was well attended by a group of guides full of good questions that make the time fly by for me. The only negative was that I rented a smaller room and when I projected my excel spreadsheets they could not be read. At that close distance the font was just too small. Even enlarging the text did not help. Next time the bigger room for me, it is worth the additional $50.
I get excellent feedback both in person and through the evaluation forms that I had use at the end of the presentation. Just as an interesting aside I met the next day one of the best known guides in the state. He is furious with me for running the seminar. He claims that he has spent 30 years trying to crush competitors and here I am helping them be successful.
Kind of interesting to think about the difference in our styles and to wonder which tact makes more sense. As soon as I knew that I had packages arranged with the Samoset that might be more business than I could handle I called a meeting of my three nearest competitors and worked out a way to cooperate. Am I wrong for thinking that more good things will come from being helpful and cooperative?
Of course at 50 years old it is almost not worth asking the question. I couldn’t change and have come to believe that the way I am going about it is the right one. Still it does make you wonder.
