Winter has settled in after a stretch of very cold days the temperatures are what I would call seasonable. It is in the teens at night and twenties during the day. We have lots of sunshine and bright blue skies to contrast with the snow on the ground. The daylight is around for almost an hour more each day than it was a month ago so even with the cold the days do not feel as dreary. Argy and I both commented on the pleasant afternoon light this weekend.
After several weeks of warm and wet it feels like January. When Argy and I went for our walk this morning it was eight degrees and the temperature at eleven is just eighteen. When it is cold like this it gets uncomfortable to sit at my desk for long periods of time because the floor in the office is so cold. Luckily I can take a laptop in and sit by the woodstove to do my writing. I am sure that this cold snap will put a coat of ice on the lakes and ponds although we are a few days from a solid covering. The best part is some discussion of a snow storm over the weekend.
We are enjoying a very mild December with only a little snow early on and now a warm and settled stretch. The grass on the lawn is still green but luckily not growing. The wood pile is not shrinking at the normal rate. There is not much more than flurries in the forecast for the next week. So I guess we will have a green Christmas instead of white this year. I noticed today that not only is there little ice on the local ponds but the loons are still swimming around in them.
