We have enjoyed a great Maine winter and I hope that yours has been enjoyable as well. We have had snow since the first of the year and more than enough to make for some excellent snowshoeing conditions. My work as the executive director of the Maine Professional Guides Association and chair of the board of the Maine Tourism Association has kept me busy enough to appreciate the time that I do get outside.
The spring and summer seasons are not far off now, the days are noticeably longer a few birds have started to sing in the mornings and snow has started to melt around trees trunks in the woods making "snow holes". I know that winter is not over; in fact March can be our snowiest month so there is still time to get in a winter nature exploration trip
I am now planning for the summer season, looking over equipment, ordering replacements where needed and thinking about what you would like to do in the Maine Outdoors. I will be adding some new trips this year and giving up some that have been part of what I offer for a very long time. If you have ideas for a Maine Outdoors trip that you have always wanted to do, send me an e-mail and I will be happy to arrange the details of your adventure. Perhaps one of the existing packages appeals to you. One couple is coming to stay at LeVatout and will be spending mornings looking for eagles in May.
Hope to see you this year!
This is the Experience that you come to Maine for!
Late winter is the time of year when I think about the trips that Maine Outdoors offers. Which ones to drop and what to add that is new different and interesting. As part of that effort I have been working with someone writing ad copy for my ads. Hearing someone else's perspective is always interesting but in the case of Maine Outdoors it is a perspective on something that I have created, nurtured and built over the last twenty six years.
As we were talking it came to me that the trips I offer are exactly the experiences that folks come to Maine to have. All I need to do is explain that to them. Should be simple.....
I think that the images in the header of the web page, the new picture on the home page and this blog post say it all!
Turkeys in the snow
We live in an area made up of dairy farms, blueberry fields and woodlots along with lots of bodies of water. Because of the farms the early stockings of wild turkeys took place here thirty years ago. Turkeys had been extirpated from Maine long before and the reintroduction was an experiment at the time. Read more....
Kids Ice Fishing Event in Union
For the last several years I have been helping my neighbors Scot and Mary put on two kids fishing events each year. One on the ice and one in open water. The next one will be February 26th. We would love to have join us! Details here.
This is my only day of ice fishing all winter and a great time, hope to see you there!
