This morning was the first time I heard the robins sing. Granted it was only for a few minutes, the temperature was in the low teens and yesterday was punctuated with snow squalls. But it was unmistakable and a sure sign that warmer days will be here soon. The snow has melted back to the point where I should be able to pull the Lund out of its winter parking spot and take it for the annual checkup. I am hoping that by the time it is finished there will be some open water to use it in.
My presentations at LL Bean and Kittery Trading Post last weekend on Taking Your Family fishing were very well received. If you missed the live event and would like to see my slides (unfortunately without the video from Ursus Media in Waterville) check the slides out here.
I attended a sportsman's show in New York where I talked with one of our local fisheries biologists and he told me that the best time to catch really big pike is right after ice out. So I am planning to spend a little time looking around to see if I can find some in Seven Tree Pond. After having two caught last year I expect that there are more to be found .
Looking for them will make a a great excuse to get out on the water as soon as I can this spring and do a little fishing. I hope that you can get outdoors this spring as well.
March in the Mud with Camden's Premier Inns
Camden's Premier Inns approached me about the possibility of offering something jointly in March and April. I offered a choice of a Winter Exploration trip or an Introduction to Birdwatching trip as part of their promotion. The program launched last week and you can click here to see what is included in their March only special offered by most of the Inns in the group.
Free Hats with your 2009 Season Reservation!
Free Maine Outdoors Waxed Cotton Hats for you and a partner ($35 value) with any fishing trips reserved before April 30th for the 2009 season. Offer good for striper fishing on the Saint George River, large or smallmouth bass fishing , a learn to fly fish experience or a family fishing trip. Offer expires April 30, 2009. Of course you can simply buy your hats in the store, but without the trip they are only great looking, functional hats without a story or a shared memory of a great time on the water.
New for 2009
As an added benefit on freshwater fishing trips, I have decided to include fishing licenses in the price of your trip. I have sold licenses for a number of years to make going fishing with me more convenient and up until this year simply added the cost of licenses on. Now if you need to purchase a license for your trip it will be included with no price increase!
