Summer weather has really arrived in Maine. We are scheduled for sun and temperatures in the 80's until next week. After all of the rain and cold of the last few weeks it is great to see the sun and bright blue sky. I had to scramble around a little to find my sunscreen but I am not complaining. The stripers are back in the usual places but the water is very brown, stained by all of the fresh water still pouring out of the river. This morning I had striper about four feet long flash under a fly, tried to get him to come back and bite the fly but no luck. It is nice to know that there are a few big fish around, it keeps things interesting. I am looking forward to fishing most of next week with folks that I have not seen in a few years. I know that the fishing will be good so I am anticipating a great time out on the water.
There have been two nice articles published since the last newsletter that feature me or a project I have been involved in. The first was in the Maine Tourism Association monthly newsletter that focused on my career over the last twenty years. Much of that thanks to you. You can see the newsletter at MTA Newsletter the link will require that you have Adobe Acrobat reader to view the newsletter and the article is on page four.
The second article appeared in one of the local newspapers about a kids fishing event that I help out on, there is a pretty picture of me helping a kid unsnarl their line down a ways on the page. You can see for yourself at Village Soup. Of course that is not the first fishing line I have ever unsnarled and I am sure that it will not be the last.
Late June is always the first stretch of steady guiding for the summer. In fact this newsletter is a few days early because I am already pretty busy early next week. So I thought I would take this quiet Friday afternoon and drop you a note about what's new.
This morning there was an eagle being chased by a flock of gulls; eagles are usually chased by angry flocks of crows but gulls today. I don't know what he had done to them but he had an entourage of maybe 100 squawking gulls following him (or her) across the cove. If you have not seen any interesting wildlife lately please make a plan to get out and enjoy the Maine Outdoors soon.
Best regards,
