Wind and some of the coldest temperatures of the winter have been the features so far this month. Lows have been around 0 and afternoon highs are in the teens with a stiff wind making it feel colder. We are scheduled for snow this afternoon and tonight to add to the feel of winter still hanging on. Needless to say my plans for an early spring and start to the guiding season have been put off. At least for a couple of weeks.
I have been working with the Samoset Resort in Rockport on developing packages that include two nights stay at the hotel and either a day of fishing or a canoe trip on the Saint George River. We have agreed on most of the details and are finalizing prices and communications. Basically the package will be available from the middle of May until the first Saturday in October. More information to follow in future newsletters and both the Samoset and Maine Outdoors will develop web pages explaining the details in the next month or so. It will now be possible to make all of your arrangements with one phone call and get a discount on your stay in the area as well.
Of course I am still taking reservations as I have in the past. One thing that I definitely enjoy about the winter is making plans with old friends for another adventure. It is always great to catch up on their news, share a few stories and talk about warmer days ahead.
I did a computer upgrade last weekend and as I should have expected did not go smoothly. I am about 80 percent recovered and should be back to where I was in a week or so. It was pretty unsettling, at one point I was not able to open any of my customer data for the last 20 years. I sure did not plan for the amount of time it all took or how difficult it was. The good news is that everything is running much better and faster, amazing that when I bought the 20 gig hard drive I could not imagine ever needing all of that room. Now only a few years later I filled it and installed a hard drive 10 times the size for half of the price.
My work at the Maine Legislature is beginning to slow down; they will adjourn sometime next month. As the end of the session gets close the individual committees have finished their work. The committee on Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has only a couple of meetings left before they complete their work for this session. Just in time for me to begin preparing for the coming season in earnest.
After all spring is just around the corner in spite of the thermometer and weather forecast.
Best regards,
