Our weather has been pretty warm for January and we seem to be having a little snow almost every other day. The best part is that there is not much wind with these little storms so the snow covers everything like confectioners sugar. Drifting down on each branch, limb and pine needle, making our outdoors a winter scene from inside of one of those snow globes. It is snowing hard this morning and we are scheduled to get a few inches followed by a warm up mid week that will have our temperatures in the 30's. Not to hard to take and definitely easy on the wood pile. The days are noticeably longer than they were only a few weeks ago, unfortunately the sunset moves and sunrise stays about the same until almost the end of January. Which means that Argy and I take our morning walks in almost total darkness for a few more weeks.
After wanting a weather station for most of my life I have one on the roof of the office. I worked a good part of a day getting everything installed and hooked up. I had some trouble getting the barometer to work but was able to get it going after exchanging e-mails with customer service. They were actually of no help but did get me thinking on the right path to helping myself. The weather station was a gift from my sons and it is a great feeling to have one. Working outdoors in a variety of settings over the years I always want to know the actual conditions. Now I can simply look up from my desk and see how hard the wind is blowing and what direction it is coming from. Not to mention the temperature and humidity inside and out. Of course I will have to be inside to see but it will be great to know the current conditions as I head out for a day of fishing. Of course we have had little wind to speak of since I put it up!
I know that summer is a long way off but if you are planning a trip to the mid coast it is not too soon to book your fishing or canoe trip. Give me a call or send me an e-mail and we can make all of the arrangements.
Registered Maine Guides are well respected throughout the country for their knowledge of Maine's woods and waters. This high level of outdoor knowledge does not necessarily make someone qualified to run a small business, develop customers or handle bookkeeping. Most small business courses are aimed at business sectors other then outdoor recreation. I offer a seminar for guides that combines; many business basics with specific knowledge developed over time of what does and does not work. The next seminar is filling fast and attracting some great folks to share their expertise. The seminar will be offered at the Maine Principal's Association in Augusta, ME on January 21, 2006 from 9 to 3, and is limited to 15 participants. From the way that reservations are coming in I expect this one to fill completely. If you would like more information visit the web site at Maine Outdoors Guide Business Seminar to see the details or to register.
