I watch the weather forecasts probably more than the average person. OK maybe I am obsessed. At any rate looking ahead I feel pretty confident in saying that the hot summer weather is behind us now.
The drought not so much. We are once again well below normal for rainfall once again this summer. I checked the records and it looks like we have had dry summers since 2016.
The lakes and ponds have dropped significantly again in the last couple of weeks. Luckily the fishing holds up especially as water temperatures start to drop and we head toward fall. Fall bird migrations are started, actually they have been underway for almost a month. The hummingbirds are crowding the feeder in our yard getting ready to head out soon. On the saltwater the huge schools of pogies are thinning out and the seals seem to be following them. Still stripers around and with luck they will stay until October,
This morning when I launched on Megunticook Lake a group of 5 young ospreys were practicing their fish catching technique on the schools of perch in the cove by the launch. The surface was still, the water clear and shallow making for a perfect practice area for them. I wish I had been quick enough to catch some vide but it was quite the show for few minutes and yes a couple of them did manage a perch for breakfast.
The other interesting thing is that there are flocks of loons on Megunticook as they gather before heading to the saltwater for the winter. The biggest group I have seen lately had 16 in it. Definitely a treat to see.

I'm looking forward to sharing some time on the water with you before the snow flies!
