Birds Singing Everywhere This Spring

June is a third of the way over and I have been spending many of my days guiding fishing trips on the freshwater. Overall fishing has been very good and folks have been successful. But the most enjoyable part for the guy standing in the middle of the boat without a rod in his hand was the birdsong.

Not the usual songs that we all recognize like loons, eagles or even a phoebe. I’m thinking of the northern oriole, rose breasted grosbeak, yellow warbler, red eyed vireos and even bluebirds. All bright and pleasant songs to hear.

Not sure what is different this spring. Maybe more time on freshwater where I can hear them singing, maybe less wind with a little less noise, or even the hearing aids I switched to last winter are more sensitive to that higher pitch. I really have no good explanation but know for sure that it has made my spring much more enjoyable!
