My early season fishing trips are always eventful if a little on the chilly side.
Yesterday I eased down the river into White Oak Pond not in any hurry just looking around and seeing where trees had fallen into the river or any other changes of note. As I took the engine out of gear, I noticed a huge splash which of course caught my eye immediately. A few seconds later, another one in a line toward the edge of the water it was hard to tell what it might be so I stood up to see if it surfaced again.
Then clearly an otter that I had somehow surprised made the quickest escape it could arrange. I thought that is cool; I have seen otters over the years with clients but rarely. In another second the otter hit the shore and took off through the woods. Because the leaves are not out on anything, I could clearly see it racing off for a couple hundred yards. Fast sleek and dark, not my vision of otters sort of bouncing along over land with their distinctive lope.
If I were to guess I would say that otter was a little faster than my English pointer. I would never have guessed the whole event was over in maybe a minute! As always, you just never know what you might see!
Come write or call if I can help you create your outdoor memories. Or make your reservation online at this link.
Looking forward to sharing some of the summer weather with you!
