No doubt winter is here!

I admit to being lulled into a vision that the warm comfortable fall would last longer. Say until Christmas. Clearly mother nature had other ideas though. Last week Argy and I enjoyed a vacation that included Thanksgiving dinner with family in New Jersey and other stops around the region. Like the fall up to that point it was warm and pretty much dry. Only a jacket needed.

This week is a whole different game. Snow on Tuesday (about 8 inches) flurries off and on finished off by a strong northwest wind and falling temperatures. Our power was out for a short time last evening. Woke up this morning to a temperature of -3 degrees but at least the wind had died down. As you can see icicles and clear skies are the tone for the day.

I had the pleasant feeling of being ready for winter this year. Wood in the garage, deck furniture put away and snow plowing all arranged. Still when I decided yesterday that my duck hunting season was done because of the forecasted weather it was sort of a surprise. Back in the day hunts with clients went on into January. I have clear memories of launching a Lund in heavy Arctic Sea smoke or setting up in a cove out of the wind at 4 degrees above zero. That was cold, and much more dangerous than I liked.

I am now enjoying the luxury of being able to say that the weather has turned and I am finished outdoors for now. Looking forward to a little snowshoeing and the bright sunshine of winter as the days get longer in a few weeks. Until then feeding the wood stove and enjoying what winter has in store for us. Still considering offering ice fishing this winter but leaning towards not.
