Good morning! It's a crisp 40 degrees here with a bit of an easterly wind and some drizzle – pretty typical spring weather on the Maine coast. We were treated to a few lovely warm days recently that brought out the green in the grass and the cheerful daffodils. Overall, though, it's been a cooler, wetter spring compared to the last few, which were quite warm and dry.
The good news is that the long-term forecast is looking much brighter, making me think of those warm, sunny summer days out on the water. It won't be long now!
Speaking of getting out on the water, the boat is all prepped and ready, waiting patiently in the yard just outside my office. Getting everything organized for the season is a process that unfolds over a couple of weeks. It usually takes a few shakedown trips to jog my memory about all the little things needed to ensure everything is where it should be. For instance, during the winter, I only need to keep track of my own raingear, but as the season kicks off (today's weather is a perfect reminder!), I need to have a few extra sets handy for you when it's wet. I packed those up yesterday after they spent the winter airing out in the office entry. The pliers, net, chartplotter, and trolling motor batteries are all installed and ready in their usual spots.
My season starts next week with a learn-to-fly-fish trip, and it's going to be a busy start after that. Fingers crossed that the sunshine in the forecast warms up the water and gets the fish a bit more active!
