First an apology, some of you may have received a newsletter that I sent to all of my past clients last week and now are getting my regular newsletter this week. Please forgive the frequency, I try hard not to be too regularly in your inbox and these e-newsletters are closer together than normal.
Spring has arrived in Maine. The snow is gone and many of our birds have returned. Just this morning I heard a tom turkey gobbling in the woodlot out back. The ice has gone out of Seven Tree and Round Ponds and I expect other local ponds to be ice free in the next week or so. Today we are bing treated to gale force winds that are drying things out and blowing the leaves off of the lawn (hopefully).
It will not be long until warmer days get the spring peepers singing and it will be time to get back on the water. I hope that you have had a good winter and are thinking about your summer plans. Over the winter there have been additions at Maine Outdoors.
You can now friend me on Facebook or become a fan of Maine Outdoors there as well. I am also on Linkedin and Twitter if you would like to hear about regular goings on here. Of course I still update the blog twice a week and am available to chat on AIM, Googletalk or MSN.
As spring warms and you begin to make summer plans I hope that Maine Outdoors is on your list for a new outdoor memory this season. Please get in touch using any of the above or of course you can reply to this e-mail or simply call 800-203-8549 and arrange your trip today!
First Paddle!
Noah our oldest son is paddling the Northern Forest Canoe Trail this spring from Old Forge New York to Fort Kent Maine. As part of his project he built a cedar strip canoe last fall and has been putting on the finishing touches over the last couple of weeks. Yesterday was the big launch, Argy and I drove to Bar Harbor with a canoe of our own, we met Noah and launched the new boat. (To see a picture please visit the blog post)
It was cold and windy but luckily the shore of Eagle Lake was well protected allowing for the trials in relative calm (but not warmth). The boat is beautiful and paddles well; in fact it is more stable than I anticipated. A great day in spite of the weather!
Noah is planning to leave on his adventure next week and hopes to have paddled all 740 miles of the trail by early July. He is maintaining a journal of his trip. He is also using an interesting piece of technology called Spot that allows him to send messages with his location via e-mail which are posting to his journal via Twitter. Pretty amazing stuff and of course comforting to the parents. Who are very proud of the accomplishment of building a new boat and his taking on the adventure of the trip.
Oh by the way yesterday was the first canoe trip of the spring for Argy and I as well. It was great to be back on the water if only for a few chilly but proud minutes.

Price Reduction for 2009
As an added benefit on freshwater fishing trips, I have decided to include fishing licenses in the price of your trip. I sold licenses for a number of years to make going fishing more convenient and up until this year simply added the cost of licenses on. Now if you need to purchase a license for your trip it will be included at no charge!
