A Gem in Belfast

Created on Wed Jun 9, 2010 by Don Kleiner

One of the most pleasant aspects of my early summer routine is visiting the various bed and Breakfasts and Inns in the mid coast. We always have a positive discussion of the coming season and how the winter treated us. Over time I have come to admire all of the innkeepers for their pleasant attitudes and positive personalities. The Belfast Bay Inn and Suites was recommended to me by Rachel Umstead of Meandering Maine last fall but I simply did not have time to stop in over the winter.

I had lunch in Belfast today with Argy and Noah our newly graduated son. Since I was in town I took advantage of the opportunity and stopped in to leave a few brochures. Ed was a delight to visit with and the Inn is a showplace, right in downtown Belfast a block from the harbor. Like Rockland to the south Belfast’s downtown still consists of the old brick buildings now filled with a variety of interesting shops making it a pleasant small city with a nice downtown to visit on foot.

Belfast is a 45 minute drive from Union but no further than Boothbay or Wiscasset, not to mention it is on the way to Graham Lake. I’m glad that I took the time to stop by and learn about a gem in Belfast.
