Eagles Fishing

Created on Mon Sep 5, 2011 by Don Kleiner

A family on a family fishing trip last week was treated to an eagle picking up a fish very close to the boat. Actually he missed on the first pass swung right back and picked up a big shiner on the second pass not twenty five feet from the boat! Of course I was completely flatfooted with my camera not even turned on. As luck would have it though my client got a photo with his phone that I was sort of proud of.

Eagles and Ospreys Galore

I often write about how frequently we see eagles and ospreys on various trips and that they are almost always part of the early season striper fishing mix. Yesterday afternoon really made that point. Capt. George Harris of Superfly Charters and I were fishing on the Saint George between Thomaston Harbor and Warren Village checking to see if the stripers had arrived yet (nope).

A Stretch on Round Pond

Sometimes I find that I am spending a lot of time in a place. Often it is as much coincidence as anything. For instance I have spent several days in the last week or so on Seven Tree and Round Ponds. A sunset canoe trip, a bird watching canoe trip, a few family fishing trips and a learn to fly fish experience all had me on those ponds last week. On the sunset trip we were treated to a pair of eagles perched across the cove as we ate dinner. I’m not sure who was watching who because not much seemed to escape the eagles’ watchful eyes.
